Navigator Edition: April 2015
By: Melissa Fox and Jake MacMichael

Results of the First Annapolis Debit Issuer Benchmarking Study are in, and issuers’ debit portfolio metrics continue to improve.

Based on a sample of 13 leading issuers representing 121MM debit cards, study results show that while active card rates and average ticket sizes remain relatively stable, cardholder usage continues to increase. The participant sample experienced a 3% increase in average monthly transactions per active card, from 22.7 in 2013 to 23.4 in 2014, and a corresponding increase in annual spend per active card.

Combined with a 1.6% increase in participating issuers’ debit portfolios, this represents a 4.7% increase in debit transactions and spend for the sample (2014 vs. 2013).
