Dan Kreis manages the portfolio management practice area of First Annapolis. This practice focuses on account management, risk management, operations management, and portfolio launch support. Dan specializes in consumer and small business lending and brings risk management expertise to all of the major lending decision areas – prospect selection, credit underwriting, and account management. He has managed and consulted in nearly every back office function - credit, collections, fraud, customer service and accounting. He advises banks, retailers, third party service providers, specialized lenders, and companies in adjacent markets such as check-cashing firms, Internet-based consumer auctions and utility companies. Dan brings a practical understanding of how predictive models, decision engines, and other credit tools can be deployed to the benefit of each client’s unique situation.
Recent assignments include assisting two major US banks re-launch their credit card programs, conducting five collections review and re-engineering initiatives, and advising a leading small business fleet-card issuer in the development of a revolving credit operations and systems platform. On each of these assignments, Dan worked on-site with the client and played an integral role in addressing near-term portfolio management needs - enhancing policy and procedures, re-organizing units and work flows, and, developing productivity measurements and reporting. Dan has also assisted two leading card issuers develop customer segmentation for “lifecycle” promotional campaigns and risk based portfolio re-pricing. Further, Dan has led the development of a comprehensive risk management review and benchmarking service.
Previously, Dan was the regional director of the Mid-Atlantic and Mexican markets for Fair, Isaac Company, Inc. In this capacity, he assisted key clients in the design, implementation and tracking of risk management tools and strategies. He also consulted with many of the nation’s leading financial institutions and was instrumental in developing new solutions for the small business lending and utility industries.
Dan has over 27 years of operations and risk management experience. Over half of his career has been dedicated to managing credit card and other consumer loan portfolios with First Omni Bank and PMC, a portfolio management firm. Over the course of his career, Dan has developed practical solutions in response to the challenges brought upon by different economic cycles, changing competitive conditions, and unique strategic demands.
Dan is a published author and has lectured at various conferences, seminars, client executive forums and user groups. Additionally, he has served as an expert witness on a variety of litigation matters concerning the payments industry. He earned a B.A. in economics and finance from the University of Maryland at Baltimore County.
